Internal Department Scholarships
Incoming Nutrition freshmen and transfer students are eligible for the Bailey Nutrition Scholar program. Students are selected for the $5,000/year award based upon academic excellence and interests in these enhanced curriculum programs. Every applicant to the University who indicates Nutrition as their major of choice on their application for admission is automatically considered for this scholarship. No separate scholarship application is required.
Additionally, the department offers numerous undergraduate awards over $30,000 yearly, available to students in either Food Science or Nutrition. Some awards are major specific (i.e. dairy technology) while others are general. Individual award amounts typically range from $800 to $1,500 per student. A department application must be completed for these scholarships. Applications are due to the department by April 1. FScN Department Scholarship Application.
External Scholarships
Industry or Professional Associations offer scholarships that Nutrition students are eligible for yearly. Amounts vary dependent on the individual scholarship. Students are notified of these scholarships via an email from the department as they become available. Students then apply directly to the scholarship source. A sample of scholarships and their application deadlines are listed below.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program
The University of Minnesota's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) offers financial awards twice yearly to full time undergraduates for research, scholarly, or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty member. It encourages students to conduct research and pursue academic interests outside of their regular courses by employing them to work on special research projects. Awards are not based on financial need.
